As a teacher we sometimes forget what is like to be on the other side of the baton. Performing with Central Winds affords me the opportunity to keep that prospective. It also reminds me of the enjoyment and energy that come from being part of group with one goal.

I believe that I have become a much better teacher because of this group. To be able to play a wide array of literature has allowed me to introduce music to my kids at school that I might not have been aware of. To perform and rehearse under two great educators and conductors is much like attending a weekly clinic. It has improved my rehearsal technique. To be able to talk to colleagues has also been extremely valuable.

Being a performer and a teacher has been a part of my life for many years and balancing that with my family life has created some interesting challenges. I may not always be successful with that, but the benefits certainly outweigh the demands. Having a big calendar and writing everything down helps!!
